heel pain

Postby buck on Wed Jan 21, 2009 6:25 pm

Based on info in the home page I have diognosed myself with plantar fascitis. When getting out of bed I have pain in the bottom of the heel about 1 to 2 inches from the back of the heel (left foot). It feels as though there is a longitudial cut there, but there is no evidence of such on the skin. It goes away quickly. This started a few days after some heavy stomping while dancing to cotton-eyed-joe. If age is a factor I am pushing 73. Does my diagnosis sound reasonable. Any better ideas. How do I rid myself of this quickly w/o going inactive? Thanks, Buck

Hi Buck - Yes, it sounds like PF to me . . . the best thing that you could do is to make an appointment with a podiatrist - he will probably put you in temporary orthotics and advise an anti-inflammatory for you to take. The quicker that you get on top of it, the higher chance of it not getting worse!

Good Luck!

It is true that the quicker you get on this the faster it will heal. But I don't think you have PF. You can bruise bones, and I think you may have done just that. You mention that it hurts in the morning, but goes away pretty quick. How does it feel after you've been sitting for 10-15 minutes? If it doesn't hurt at all, or doesn't hurt much, a bone bruise is a good possibility. You do need to stretch, and you do need to wear goos shoes. Bone buises take about a month to heal. If in a month you've still got most of the pain, or it's gotten worse, then PF is a good assumption. In the meantime, go easy on the "cotton eyed joe" and heavy foot stomping.

What other ankle injuries have you had? rollover sprains? Breaks? Knee issues?

I've been doing medical & orthopedic massage for 24 years, I used to work for an orthopedic surgeon. You'll get through this.
