shoes to help plantar fasciitis?

Postby blakelycc on Wed Nov 05, 2008 8:19 am

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has tried Masai Barefoot technology shoes for this condition? Also, can you please suggest any brand of shoe that has helped with the pain?
Thanks!

hi blakelycc,

New Balance are inexpensive compared to masai! i looked into them back when i was suffering from pf, but it was too much $$$ after all i'd already spent on orthotics, etc. that didn't work.

i cured my feet with yogatoes, which are not shoes but a passive exercise device. if i remember right, masai claim to exercise feet and ankles, too, but for a lot more than the $50 the yogatoes cost!

see my posts in the main thread for more info about them.

I have been told I have plantar fasciitis as well as achilles tendinitis, lucky me. My doctors also tell me to find sneakers with " good arch support, a little lift in the heel, and good support for the back of my foot". So, no clogs and high heel sneakers??? Talk about confused. I was debating about Yoga toes, and now someone has come out with a knock off, priced at around $10, which seems worth a try (thanks Gina). Has anyone tried "fit flops?" I know they wouldn't be good for long term wear, but I thought maybe they'd be good for a half hour or so, to stretch my calves and strengthen my ankles. Any thoughts? PS. I never go barefoot, I keep a pair of Birkenstocks for my "house shoes"

hi bloomingchick,

yup, my achilles were a problem, too; coudn't stand on tiptoe w/out feeling like they were going to snap.

i've seen the yogatoes knock-offs, and they're definitely not the same. go for the real thing;
altho it seems like $$$ for a bit of silicone, they last indefinitely and it's cheaper than just about anything else you'll try for your achy feet.

btw, here's a link to some info about my experience w/ them:
http://www.plantar-fasciitis.org/talk/topic9-15.html
(scroll to my post and then follow the links w/in it. more yt posts on later pages.)

the fitflops look like a good concept (and have good reviews), but if you're choosing one or the other, i'd go for the yt, since you can wear them for more extended periods - and on the couch or in the tub!

my shoes? birk's in summer, dansko clogs spring/fall, "barefoot science" inserts (got them from hsn) in my no-support winter boots. in the house, my feet are perfectly happy barefoot or in socks, nowadays.

Try Nike Free. They provide me with some relief. You can purchase them on the Nike website. You can even custom color them -- only $10 more than buying a ready-made color theme.

I have also heard of bad reports on yoga toes. My podiatrist said definitely do not use them. They can create many more problems. I know at this point you are probably willing to try anything but please be careful. I was told, as Sue was, that new balance is the best. That is the only kind of tennis shoe I have been wearing and it seems to be the only thing that is tolerable. Good Luck...

The absolute best shoes are this for men:

and this for women

I have unreal pain in my feet and can't stand or walk for very long without alot of
pain, I have heel pain(spurs) arch pain from a tight fascia and balls of feet pain from
a tight fascia. These shoes are going to save my job until I find a way to fix my feet.
Trust me if you want to walk without alot of pain these are it and I don't work for crocs
I am just sharing this because my tennis shoes kill me and my Z-coils provide a little
help but they are very uncomfotable and still bring you pain after a while wearing them.
They are expensive but I am willling to pay for pain relief
