Recently diagnosed with PF! Knot on heal?

Postby jradar71 on Mon Mar 16, 2009 7:16 am

I was recently diagnosed with PF and had never heard of such a thing. Then I come to find out this is actually pretty common these days and even some of my friends have had this condition.

My question is this - Does anyone else have a knot on the bottom of their heal? Mine feels like it is a hole almost. My doctor didn't seem to take much stock in it and advised me of the typical stretching exercises combined with 4 Alieve a day to help with inflammation. I haven't found anyone that has the knot like I have and wonder if this is something I need to be a little more concerned with? The doctor also gave me a plastic insert to put inside my shoes. Some days I have almost no pain and others I feel like I would rather chop off my foot as opposed to walking.

I had an exray taken thinking that it might have been a bone spur but that was negative.

So... does anyone else have something similar to what I am describing?

Thanks... Jason

Jradar,
Where exactly is the knot? Also, just because you don't see a spur, doesn't mean there is no PF. Fill me in, I need to know what kind of shoes you wear, if you stand on concrete, and for how long per day, if you've ever had a serious ankle injury to the affected foot, (and how long ago it was) and I'll answer what I can.

The knot is in the center of the heel on the bottom of the foot. Mostly I wear boots ( like Timberlands) that come just over the ankle. I don't stand hardly at all. Most of my day at work is spend sitting. Only getting up for breaks and lunch most of the time. I haven't had any ankle injuries and don't recall stepping on anything either (my doctor questioned about that). The pain has been around for a few months and progressively got worst until I just couldn't take it anymore and went to the doctor about 3 weeks ago. He gave me a hard plastic insert to put in the shoe that didn't seem to much of anything.

Now... a few days ago I ran into someone at work that was recently diagnosed with PF. His doctor advised of stretching and taking Alieve 4 times a day. Four times seems a little much but I did start taking 1 at night now. Additionally, my wife has started to rub my foot in the middle. The website advised maybe rolling a ball under your foot to stretch it, but this seemed more logical and more direct pressure to me. So far this rubbing has been a little painful but also seems to be helping. The knot isn't so large now... not sure if its from taking Alieve for inflammation or from stretching, but something is helping. I only hope it continues to get better.

Any advise is appreciated and thanks for responding.
