Shoes that might help relieve pain

Postby bmehlman on Sat Jan 17, 2009 8:34 pm

When my heel is at its worst, I find that wearing flip-flops with egg-crate souls relieves the pain almost immediately. The other pair of shoes I wear that helps me get through the day are Nike Free. They simulate walking barefoot and keep the foot in its proper position. I ordered them from the Nike website. Hope these suggestions give someone some relief, at least for a bit.

Hmm,
Nike didn't work for me at all, they made it worse. I've had good results with Finn Comfort, NAOT, and Mephisto. MBT is very good, and the Z-coils agre great. I've had ok results with Brooks, and Saucony. New Balance didn't work for me at all. I use orthotics, even now that my pain is gone. Proper support is key. Peoples feet are very different and a brankd that works for one won't necessartily work for someone else. Deep tissue massage to release the restrictions and adhesions in my ankles and calves is what got rid of it.

I just got back from an excellent Orthopaedic Surgeon who specializes in foot and ankle problems in regards to my Plantar Fascitis and heel spurs. In addition to exercises to do in AM and after sitting for a long period and a splint to wear at night, she told me not to wear flat shoes or go barefoot but to wear shoes that have a one or two inch heel at all times. I was also given ViscoSpot heel cushions for heel spurs. All my shoes were very low heel or sneakers, so I bought a few pairs of clog type shoes with small back...nurse showed me hers and said they were very comfortable. She was right.

Take a look at the list of shoes from APMA.

Our podiatrist recommends MBTs and they are very expensive, however they were the ONLY shoe that made it possible for me to walk prior to surgery. He also recommends BITE shoes, but they have been purchased by Croc. I had my MBTs resoled since that was less expensive than buying a new pair. MBTs are Masai Barefoot Technology and supposed to be very good for the foot. They tend to put you off balance a tad, though. They have round bottoms.
