Odd Foot Symptoms

Postby TheSkunk on Mon Apr 06, 2009 10:41 am

Hello! I would very much appreciate thoughts regarding what seem to be some "odd" foot pain symptoms I've been experiencing. They don't fit neatly into any explanation I've seen after browsing a number of places.

I am:
39yo male
6' 0" & 180 lbs
Inactive as I work far too much. I work from home.

My problem foot is my left. This foot also sustained a severe injury approximately 20 years ago. I turned an ankle on someone's foot playing basketball which resulted in a large number of avulsion fractures. My range of motion never fully returned even with physical therapy.

Current problem is pain when weight is put on foot during normal activity. Pain is just in front of my heel (but not in the heel) and goes throughout the middle of my foot opposite the arch (no arch pain and yes, I do have an arch) and up to, but not past the ball of my foot. The foot does not hurt while at rest. Range of motion or stretching while sitting does not cause pain. Occassionally, I will have some tingling or burning sensation but I could say that was present before this pain started.

About 1.5 to 2 months ago, I was running with a new dog outside our home and took a bad step on uneven ground. Just a very slight event with no ankle twist, swelling or anything of that nature. I noticed stiffness and soreness later that day. It persisted with some days being worse than others. It has only been the last week that the pain is more pronounced and persistent to warrant a limp at times. I have primarily worn some good comfortable Clark's shoes but continue to experience pain.

I exhibit some symptoms of PF but that does not explain others especially after the acute onset of my pain. Have I torn or damaged the fascia in one fail swoop that usually takes longer times to achieve or have I done something different or be afflicted with something else?

Thoughts and recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
