I suffered from PF for 4 yrs. I tried custom orthotics, dynosplints, soft night splints, "the night sock", multiple cortisone injections, ice, stretching, physical therapy, active release technique, accupuncture, ultrasound, anti-inflammatories, neurontin (this really helped my nerve pain but made me gain weight). I gained approx. 40 lbs., and became a blob on the couch. For most of you that have had PF for any length of time, I don't have to tell you the frustration/depression that can come with this condition. Simple things like going to the grocery store, Target, Costco, etc. have to be planned out--it's pathetic. Most people haven't had to endure the daily pain that comes with this. Unfortunately, the pain really never went away for me, it just kept getting worse. This is what made me finally decide it was time to have surgery. I had the same dr. for the entire 4 yrs. and after nerve tests, MRI, etc., we made the decision for surgery.
I had the EPF partial release surgery in September. Unfortunately, I'm still in extreme pain, but not in the same part of my foot. My heel pain is completely gone, as is the shooting nerve pain that went "up my ankle/leg". Post surgery, I've developed "outer" foot pain and a morton's neuroma. There are days that are better than others. Obviously I have some nerve issues--I can actually be laying on the couch, both feet out and experience shooting pains in different areas of my foot, different days. I know it sounds crazy, but that is just how I can describe it. I have a new set of custom orthotics, have started physical therapy, and received a shot of cortisone near the neuroma. When I stretch, it's aggravating the neuroma, so it's pretty frustrating. I've lost 19 lbs. since the surgery.
Is there ANYONE out there that has had this surgery, gone through some of the post op complications, but HEALED and is NORMAL??!! PLEASE tell me there is hope. My physical therapist has never worked with someone that has had this surgery. I know everyone is different, and I'm not trying to discourage anyone from the surgery. I'm sure this can and will get better---I just want to know if anyone is out there that has had the same symptoms post op. When the facsia is cut, the foot has to adjust, and heal. So I know that is part of the problem, my foot is just "adjusting"....I just wish it would hurry up and let me live the rest of my life free of pain....I hope someone out there can help me....thanks
