Foot pain for 7 years, now an EMG test

Postby tcason on Tue May 26, 2009 3:59 pm

I had a first visit with a highly recommended DPM surgeon. After 7 years of foot pain, which another DPM diagnosed me with plantar faciitis, I was told it was neurological. Has anyone heard of this? He ordered me an EMG test to check for nerve problems. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Hi tcason - I have been dealing with bilateral PL for almost 2 years now - I had EMG tests in both feet/legs which proved normal. That was in December - I had absolutely no symptoms of nerve involvement at that point - no tingling - or anything nerve related.

However, about a month ago, I started having tingling and numbness in one foot - Do you have any of these symptoms?

Sue

I had the EMG test yesterday and the results were nerve damage in the soles of both feet. I was always told I had PF until I saw the new DR. As soon as he heard burning, he said it wasn't PF. Then off I was for the shock treatments. I was told after the test I has tarsal Tunnel. I'll be seeing the DPM this week I'm sure. I want an mri!

To answer your questions, I really didn't have tingling or numbness. I do have cronic Lyme disease which caused neurological problems. So twiching, tingling, pins and needles are common.

Are you in a lot of pain? If so what helps?

All the best!
Tom

Hi Tom - What are shock treatments? What do they do? I have not heard of that before. I am still not totally convinced that I have PF as I do not have the "classic" symptoms. When I had the nerve testing done, they were testing for the Tarsal Tunnel which, as I understand it, is the same thing as carpel tunnel in your wrist - some kind of nerve entrapment.

Let me know what the shock treatments are supposed to do when you get a chance!

Thanks, Sue
