Has anyone had a cortisone injection for their PF?

Postby TWood621 on Sun May 24, 2009 2:16 pm

I was just diagnosed with Plantar Fasciitis. However, the doctor did not do an X-ray. He did a cortisone injection and told me to rest. I have only done the bare minimal for the past two days and the pain has progressively gotten worse since the injection instead of better. I am not resulting to walking with crutches the pain is so bad. Has anyone experienced this?

I've had two or three. I'm a runner. They help initially, but don't last. I do have orthotics, but what I've found is sports taping my feet according to what the podiatrist recommends helped better than that shot, overall.

I just had one done yesterday and boy did it hurt. I have had back surgury and needles in my spine but to walk on something everyday. yikes. anyway...yes my foot hurts but not so bad i need crutches. I can tolerate lots of pain though. do you think that is why? :?:

I had one cortisone injection that supposedly included novocaine with the cortisone but it might as well have contained lemon juice as the novocaine never had time to numb my heel since it was mixed with the cortisone. I have a very large tolerance for pain and this was just about one of the worst experiences of my life. I think the problem was that the needle wass making direct contact with the inflamed nerve and it was drawn out and stuck back in multiple times to cover different areas of the heel. I was dropping F-Bombs like I had tourettes syndrome. It helped for about one week then things went back to severe pain again.

I've been struggling with PF for over ten years and it's been intolerable in the last two years. I've had three sets of custom orthotics, been prescribed every anti-inflamitory medication known to man, tried months of physical therapy all to no avail. The only thing that has every helped has been when I was on a large dose of prednisone for a combination ear/sinus infection but even that stopped helping my heels before I finished the prescription.

Needless to say I have EPF surgery scheduled for my worst foot on June 18th.

Patrick.

I had this done and it was out of control painful. The actual injection was ok. It was the aftermath of the shots that were awful. I do NOT recommend this OR surgery. I also had the surgery and it has made my condition much MUCH worse. Give it time. That is my advice. Keep up with the stretches and natural remedies :) Good luck!

I have had a couple of shots, they helped temporarily but after a few months the pain comes back. I will say this though, for me they worked like magic and I forgot about my foot pain for awhile anyway.
