horrible PF but have to keep walking--I'm training

Postby beetlebug68 on Wed Jul 01, 2009 5:51 am

I'm training for the Breast Cancer 3 Day Walk--a 60 mile walk (20 on each of 3 days). I began a 24 week training program, and I'm on week 19 now. I walk anywhere from 3 - 10 miles a day, about 5 days a week. I have horrible plantar fasciitis--my first walk was in old shoes and I'm slightly overweight. I got new shoes with inserts and I always wear shoes with a good arch support. The pain is VERY intense, though--all the time--when I walk, after I walk, when I get up in the morning. . . I haven't yet gone to a podiatrist. I can't "stay off my feet. . . " or "stop walking. . . " I have to train for this 60 mile walk. Any advice?

thanks,
shana

The only advice I can give you, unfortunately, is to stop walking! You are going to worsen your condition and PF is very difficult to treat at the best of times.I would withdraw from the race and support the walkers in some other fashion. It simply doesn't make sense for you to injure yourself further, even if it is for a good cause. Just my 2 cents.

Find a chiropractor near you that does K laser treatments. They are pain free and fast. If your condition is new you should notice results in 1-2 visits. I myself have been suffering for over 3 years. I have done everything including the surgery and have just started these treatments. My goodness what a difference! I highly recommend them. I live in Cali and they run about $75 a treatment. I have not run or walked any great distance (not even the mall) in 3 yrs...and now I can walk for 30 mins at a time with little discomfort...ALL THIS AFTER ONLY 2 VISITS!!! I have high hopes for running again. Good luck and I hope you give this treatment a try or two :)
