Night Pain

Postby heelhurts on Sun Nov 30, 2008 1:08 am

It's 4:00 am and I've been up for an hour and a half with horrible pain from PF. Is anyone else out there getting woken up at night by the pain? Everything I'm reading suggests I should be wearing a night splint, but I'm not sure how to pick one and my doctor didn't mention it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Boy oh Boy, do I feel your pain . . . I have PF in both feet and wear night splints on both feet - I originally asked my doctor for one, and he came out with this HUGE almost air cast type of thing. I told him that there was no way that I could sleep with that on one foot, let alone two feet! I have been wearing the Thermoskin soft brace for almost a year now - I believe that it does help, because it allows your plantar fascia to stretch all night - They are available at most medical supply stores, or if you are an E-Bayer, you can find them much cheaper there - just type in "night splint".

Hope it helps!

Thanks Sue - I'll check that out. I'm willing to try whatever might work - I haven't slept through the night since this started. Aargh.

I have no suggestions but am looking for some myself. I have pain throughout the night often and throughout the whole day. I don't know how many times at work, I just break out in tears from the pain. I try to hide it because being on my feet is critical for my job. I'm a agent at the border of NY and Canada. I can't afford not to be at work and I had to have neck surgery a year and a half ago so I have no leave to use. So no matter how bad my feet are hurting I'm at work. I'm thinking this is even worse than the two herniated disks I had in my neck, which I hope none of you ever get. People here at work who have heard of this, seem like they don't believe I have it and of course they have no idea the pain I'm in, I can barely walk. They think oh yeah runners get that, knowing that I don't run, they are like how did you get that. The thing is, I have no idea how I got it, it seemed like I woke up with it one day. It wasn't from exercise because I also have fibromyalgia so exercise and I don't get along. I have tried heel cups, hard and gel, PT, stretches, ice and 1 cort. shot. I have ordered a thing called HTP heel seat, we'll see what I wasted my money on when they come. I have had 2 pair of new sneakers since this started in May. I really wonder if it makes sense to keep spending money on things when it seems nothing is going to help
