Is This PF?

Postby Andrew on Fri Mar 27, 2009 6:17 am

I've had plantar fasciitis before in my left foot, but over the last several months a different pain occurred in my right foot. I believe it's plantar fasciitis, but the pain is at the bottom of the arch of my right foot, and really only pops up when running. When I push off with my right foot while running, or climbing stairs and pushing up with my right foot, or raising myself onto my toes, the tissue at the bottom of my arch feels like it's snapping into place, like a rubber band that's stretched and released. Is this plantar fasciitis? I've tried stretching it and strengthening it by doing calf raises, but it doesn't go away. I recently got better running shoes, Asics 2140s, that help to quell the pain, but there's still lingering discomfort. Would night splint fix this? Any other suggestions?

Andrew, you may have plantar fasciitis. Your syptoms are similar to mine. Another problem you could have is a possible misalignment of the bones that make up your foot (there are plenty of layers of bones in your foot!). You should see a podiatrist. He/she will take an x-ray and determine whether you have one problem or multiple problems . In most cases, he/she will recommend custom orthodics for you. They are the first line of defense against PF and they are also extremely useful in aiding misalignment problems. You stand a much better chance of being safe if you get the custom made orthodics !
